dither tutorial

tastefully pixelated

Are your graphics in need of a new style? Try the dither effect for a great effect.

Firstly, grab the image in which you desire to alter. I chose this one:

You can use this image too, if you would like.

Now, in Paintshop Pro, find on the toolbar the, "Image," tab (or whatever you would call it). Search under that tab for the, "Decrease Colour Depth," option and click that. It will give you a few different colour depths to choose from. You want to click on, "2 Colours (1 bit)."

Now, an option window will pop up. Fix your settings to match my own, here.

Click OK. Now, your image should resemble mine, here. Copy your image (CTRL+C), undo the settings (CTRL+Z), and paste your copied image as a new layer (CTRL+L). Click now on, "Layer," tab and find under it, "Properties." Click that. Another option box should appear. At this point, you can change either the Blend mode and/ or the opacity to your heart's content. I simply changed the Blend mode to Soft Light. Here is the end result of my image:

It's a subtle but pleasing effect that's easy to create. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to e-mail me at moonflamedesigns@gmail.com~.
